TikTok Nigeria has temporarily suspended its late-night LIVE feature following a surge in livestreams containing sexual content, including users performing acts in real-time for audiences.
The restriction was announced via an in-app notification, with TikTok stating it is conducting a safety review to ensure the platform remains safe for its users. The company has not specified when late-night LIVE access will resume.

Rise of Explicit Content on TikTok LIVE in Nigeria
According to internal data shared at the West Africa Safety Summit in Dakar, Senegal, Nigeria has seen a significant increase in misuse of TikTok LIVE. In Q2 2025, TikTok issued warnings and demonetized over 2.3 million LIVE sessions, while penalizing more than one million creators for violating monetization rules. Nigeria alone accounted for 49,512 banned LIVE sessions, one of the highest enforcement figures in the region.
Recent reports indicate that late-night TikTok LIVE streams in Nigeria became notorious for sexually explicit activity. Creators performed erotic acts for virtual gifts or organized adult-themed shows to earn fast payouts via TikTok’s gifting system.
TikTok’s Nighttime Ban and Safety Measures
The temporary nighttime ban now blocks Nigerian users from hosting or viewing LIVE broadcasts during hours most associated with sexual content. TikTok said this is part of a broader effort to review safety protocols in Nigeria, similar to measures applied in other markets facing spikes in policy violations.
TikTok has not provided a timeline for when late-night LIVE access will be restored as the investigation continues.
