PDP Appoints Caretaker Committees for Enugu, Delta and Rivers States

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the appointment of caretaker committees to oversee its affairs in Enugu, Delta, and Rivers States, as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s internal structure and administration.

The decision was approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), in accordance with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended).

Caretaker Committees to Oversee Party Affairs for 90 Days

Announcing the development in a statement on Friday, the National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Theophilus Shan, said the caretaker committees will manage party activities in the affected states for a period not exceeding 90 days, or until new state executives are elected.

According to Shan, the committees are empowered to run the party’s affairs as provided under Section 21(2)(a–b) of the PDP Constitution.


Guidelines and Legal Framework

Shan emphasized that the appointees are required to strictly comply with all relevant laws while carrying out their duties.

“In carrying out these assignments, the committees are to be guided strictly by the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.

PDP Says Move Aims to Strengthen Party Structure

Congratulating the appointees, Shan said the constitution of the caretaker committees forms part of broader efforts by the PDP leadership to strengthen party structures, ensure stability, and prepare the ground for the election of substantive executives in the affected states.
